This is the community wiki page for the gene frat1 please feel free to add any information that is relevant to this gene that is not already captured elsewhere in Xenbase.
nomenclature changes
14MAY2026
Xenopus gene name was changed from frat1,FRAT regulator of Wnt signaling pathway 1 to frat2, FRAT regulator of Wnt signaling pathway 2, following the NCBI orthology assertions.
Note that in humans FRAT1 and FRAT2 are adjacent genes in chr10, a pattern shared with mouse (on chr19), but that there is no synteny with frogs/Xenopus for this chromosomal region (6/6L6S), and there is only 1 FRAT gene in frogs.
NCBIs orthology prediction tools identified FRAT2 as the most similar to the Xenopus FRAT gene, so we have adopted frat2 as the best gene name for these gene models.
The function of FRAT1 and FRAT2 in humans is very similar- see NCBI for details.
