The true ortholog for human SYCN are on Chr 8/8L/8S in Xenopus, and are flanked by pak4 and nccrp1. Note that the gene model on X.laevis 8L is a biotype= pseudogene so has the symbol sycnp.L

Xenopus also have 2 more syncollin genes - 2 in X. trop and another single copy in X.laevis.8L . We've provisionally called these sycn.2 and sycn.3.
